We travelled to Ecuador in the middle of February, 2014. Why Ecuador? Well, we had never travelled to South America and by all reports, Ecuador seemed like a good place to start. It is a fairly small country with lots of variety and by South American standards, is relatively safe. There are no special visa requirements and the American dollar is the local currency so it seemed like to the place to go.
We found a small travel agency in Quito, Barefoot Expeditions, that helped us plan and arrange our trip. Just after midnight on February 12th we touched down in the capital where the adventure would begin. |
We spent the first four days in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. We stayed at a wonderful but small hotel located in what is known as the 'old town', the best preserved colonial site in South America . . . .
